Easter Egg Hunt in The Market Hall

Guest blog from Barnaby Bear

Hello, especially to all the kids!

Are you ready for Easter?  Are you looking forward to a visit from the Easter Bunny?  I am, I love spending Easter Sunday hunting for the chocolate eggs left by the Easter Bunny.

Which is why, I've decided that we should have an Easter Egg Hunt in The Market Hall all next week (from Easter Monday through to Friday).  We've got loads of clues for you to follow, taking you round all The Market Hall, and once you've found all the hidden letters, you'll be able to complete our 'magic word'.

Get the 'magic word' right and you will win a chocolate egg!

Yes, more chocolate!

To help you out on Monday, I'll be there in The Market Hall.  If you can't find a clue, then I'm sure I'll be able to point you in the right direction. I'm happy to pose for photos too!

You will come and say hello, won't you?  I'm so looking forward to seeing you.  I'll be with Fraser at Bear Bottom Teddy Bear and soft toy emporium, stall 21.

The Easter Egg Hunt runs daily from Monday 1st April to Friday 5th April.  One entry per child, and Creme Eggs eggs available while stocks last.  Prizes can not be exchanged for any other goods or money.

Now, mums and dads, here's the information bit...

The market is open on Good Friday from 11am to 4pm.  However, IK Fish, Teesdale Game and Poultry and Akins the Bakers will be open from 10am.  Therefore prior to 11am, please use the secondary entrance to The Market Hall, the one nearer the Town Hall.

On Easter Saturday, The Market Hall will be open as normal.

On Easter Monday, the Market Hall will be open from 11am to 4pm.

From Tuesday, 3rd April, the Market Hall will be open as usual from 9am.

Sweeney Todd returns to The Market Hall

Guest Blog by Dave Spencer, Director of Sweeney Todd and the String of Pearls

Sweeney Todd and the String of Pearls is back in The Market Hall for four more nights from 5th to 8th June, 2013.

For more information about tickets, please visit http://www.anothersoup.co.uk/#!sweeney-todd/c8ww

The idea for Sweeney Todd & the String of Pearls came to me when I was being shown around the Market Hall by Colin Wilkes. It struck me what a fantastic space it was, and how we could use it to give audiences a truly immersive experience of a market setting after all the traders had left.

The audience absolutely loved it!

From the moment you enter the building by the Fowler’s Yard entrance, you will be welcomed onto a ‘tour’ of Fleet Street by two guides, Gideon Philpotts and Mildred Baxter, a pair of loveable but dishevelled rogues, who will lead you through Holborn for the entirety of your visit.

Immediately, it is clear that this is no ordinary theatrical experience. Audiences are invited to join in, to chat with the residents of Holborn, and to discuss with each other what they’ve seen during their travels. We had a number of distinguished guests visit us, including the Mayor and Mayoress of Durham, who thoroughly enjoyed it, a number of senior figures in the University, such as the University Treasurer, and around 295 other people who loved the show. We had two superb reviews from the student newspapers (http://www.dur.ac.uk/dst/firstnight/review.php?review=169 and http://www.palatinate.org.uk/?p=37226) We also had the Journal visit us as well as coverage in the Chronicle and the Metro.

Sweeney Todd sold out after the fourth performance, when we still had six to go, so obviously we didn’t want to disappoint the number of people who weren’t able to get tickets. There are also currently plans to take Sweeney Todd to the Edinburgh Fringe 2014, as well as to rewrite and record the musical so that it can be performed on stage and then the performance rights can be sold to schools, youth theatres, and other such groups.

Sweeney Todd has proven to be Another Soup Productions most successful show by far!

With so many people having loved their short trip into Fleet Street, why not come down to the Market Hall from 5-8 June, and watch and listen as the ghosts of markets past emerge out of the darkness and welcome you to Holborn? It truly is a spectacular show; you’re sure to Lovett!
