Guest blog - Joe Harrison, Chief Exec of NMTF invites you to enter First Pitch

“Could you make your mark in the market with First Pitch?”

Where else in today’s economically turbulent world can entrepreneurs just go for it? Where else can they take full responsibility for their career from the word ‘go’?

Where else can they go to nurture their individual passions, connect with like-minded people and be generously rewarded for their own determination, personal grit and business nous?

Nowhere I can think, but on a market.

Durham Markets Company recognises this, which is why they are supporting the market trader start-up scheme, First Pitch, run by the National Market Traders Federation (NMTF), by offering a pitch on Durham City’s Outdoor Market.

First Pitch is open to anyone aged over 16 who can work in the UK who has a great business idea and the belief they can make their mark in the market.

Many of our well-known brands started life on the markets and we know that many people want to take that leap into starting their own business.

First Pitch gives the support entrepreneurs need to bring a product or service to the market.

Following a free test-trading period, the successful trader at Durham City’s Outdoor Market will receive free membership of the NMTF, a free copy of a market trader training guide and a mentor, someone who has a wealth of business and market trading experience.

There’s even a cash prize of £2,000 for the trader who makes outstanding progress over the duration of First Pitch to support them to grow their business.

Joe Harrison, Chief Executive of NMTF
Interested applicants need to apply by Friday 19th April, there’s one pitch available on Durham Outdoor Market – good luck!
