Follow the Treasure Trail in Durham this August!

Come and have a go at the FREE 'Pirate Challenge' Treasure Trail at the Saturday Outdoor Market and Farmers' Market in the Market Place this month - free prizes for all who complete it!

Forgetful pirate, Captain Jack Parrot, was on a recent raid in Durham when he left nine vital objects for his pirate trade around Durham Indoor Market. Can you take up the challenge to find the objects including his compass, spade and parrot? The Captain will promote you to first mate if you can!

Each object has a special code on it which you'll need at the end of the Trail to unlock a treasure chest and claim your prize!

(Prize is a chocolate coin or gold doubloon!)

Treasure Trails have produced over 1,000 unique murder mystery, treasure hunt and spy mission trails all over the UK which get families outside, exploring their local area and having lots of fun.

In order to solve the mystery, you follow easy instructions to hunt out answers to clues which can be discovered on buildings, structures and monuments. You get some beneficial exercise whilst learning a whole range of exciting new facts and seeing the most beautiful and interesting places in that area.

A growing army of fans have enjoyed these Trails over the last few years. The professionally printed booklets and then the Trail experience itself makes a fantastic summer activity for families who love walking and exploring.

Lydia Price, Manager of Treasure Trails Durham and Tees, says:

"Treasure Trails are a great activity for the whole family to complete together, as children, parents and grandparents can all get involved in finding and solving our exciting, innovative and fun mysteries.”

Treasure Trails will be coming to Durham's Outdoor Market on Saturdays 11th, 18th and 25th August and the Durham City Farmers' Market on Thursday 16th August.

So if you know a family who fancies themselves as Sherlock Holmes detectives, treasure hunting pirates or code-cracking spies, let them know about Treasure Trails in Durham this month!

At their stall on the Market (pirate-themed with bunting and balloons!), look out for:
  • free family activity trails
  • a competition to find the treasure using a grid on map (50p per go) - winner gets a selection of regional Treasure Trails booklets
  • free activity to make pirate finger puppets
  • a selection of Treasure Trails activity booklets for sale (spy missions, treasure hunts and murder mysteries - walking, cycling and driving Trails)
  • They will also be promoting their new Teambuilding: Spy Mission Activity for businesses
