Food Glorious Food!

This Thursday, 25th October,  is a bumper day for outdoor trading in Durham! Not only does it herald the start of a brand new Continental Market in the Market Place from 10am till 7pm, but also the return of Durham City's Evening Market in the Market Place, also until 7pm!
 
And as if that wasn't enough, Durham City Food Festival is this coming weekend!
 
On Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th October, the Gourmet Food Marquee on Palace Green will feature 100 regional producers selling meat, fish, pies and pasties, beer, wine, bread, cupcakes, confectionery and more, plus chef demonstrations by renowned chefs including Michelin-starred celebrity chef Jean-Christophe Novelli (pictured), chocolatier Paul A Young, Scandinavian baker Signe Johansen, food journalist Andrew Webb, Wynyard Hall's Alan O'Kane, Indian cook Maunika Gowardhan, owner of Oldfields Restaurant in Durham, Bill Oldfield, Sachins Indian Restaurant's Bob Arora, and senior chefs from Durham University and New College Durham.
 
Outside the Marquee there will also be street food, free children's entertainment and cookery workshops, not to mention even more wonderful food inside Durham Indoor Market!

The Medieval Market Comes to Town! 4-7 October 2012

There will be medieval merriment in Durham from Thursday 4 to Sunday 7 October 2012 as the Medieval Outdoor Market returns to the Market Place for a four day feast of fun!

On Thursday 4th October, the Mayor will greet the traders at 12pm and the Market will stay open until 8pm, with musical entertainment from Van Mildert College's  band 'The Quays' (2pm) and Josephine Butler's college band (early evening).

The market promises tasty traditional fayre including delicious hog roasts, hearty breads, old English meads and ciders and juicy sausages.
 
Stallholders decked out in medieval costume will be trading high quality crafts, clothing, fine jewellery and textiles and visitors will be able to enjoy demonstrations of traditional skills including spinning and pottery.
 
There also promises to be quite a gathering of characters from this bygone age with re-enactment groups, wandering musicians, and everyone’s favourite fool, Mr Devil Stick Peat who will be in residence for fun and frolics every day.
